Small Spot Development

Its a big vision, but we want to see small spots in every neighborhood park. They should be as common as a basketball court or a swing set. These last few weeks we have been playing around with some ideas for small spots, and then site specific ideas for a nearby city. It led to good conversations about how far you can take a skate sculpture before it gets goofy, and what the minimal amount of space is for a good spot. We pulled out all of Damon Ayers ideas for New Albany that didn’t make it into the final design, and so many are perfect as just spots. He told me that his idea of a spot is really just sessioning one feature for hours with his friends, taking turns, getting some food and drink, and then coming back for more. Sounds about right.
