Just a little tourism pitch for Kendallville to start off this skatepark bio- Did you know that Kendallville has a lake with sandy beaches right in the middle of town? The skatepark will be located next to lake in the Outdoor Recreation Complex that includes camping areas and some nice little cabins you can rent off the city website. A summertime swimming, kayaking, camping adventure awaits.
This project has been in the works for over 15 years, with ebbs and flows of interest. The big, positive turning point was when Kendallville local Diane Peachy (responsible for helping her community on other projects) teamed up with skatepark advocate Ron Witham to work through all the red tape and get the project to completion. The parks department was a great partner, special thanks to Ryan and Dawn for the rocks!, food, and all the assistance.
The park features a bowl surrounded by deck features and a nice roll in that sets you up for big moments. The street scape is 2 zones- a park plaza area and a bonus leg that stretches to the parking lot. A few features to highlight: 2 sets of stairs, boxes, combos, bank to curb, a rock jersey, AND LIGHTS FOLKS!
